2-to-1 multiplexer (ideal)
A two-way switch for logic, with no chip behind it: the companion to
the ideal gate. It needs no power. A Wokwi project's
wokwi-mux-2 imports as this part.
Pins
| Pin | What it does |
|---|---|
A |
The input Y follows while SEL is low. |
B |
The input Y follows while SEL is high. |
SEL |
Chooses A (low) or B (high). |
Y |
The chosen input. |
Properties
None.
What the model gets right
An unknown or unconnected input only makes Y unknown when it could change the
answer: the input SEL does not pick does not matter, and when A and B agree,
SEL does not matter either. A change reaches Y 10 ns later, and a pulse shorter
than that never gets through, as on the ideal gate.
What it does not model
No supply pins, no enable input and a flat 10 ns delay that comes from nowhere. For real multiplexer chips, see the 74HC decoders and multiplexers.
Common mistakes
Swapping A and B: SEL low picks A.
