The student discount

Pro at half price, verified by a school email address, for twelve months at a time.

The offer

Pro is ten dollars a month. A verified student pays five, or fifty a year. That is the whole offer, which is why it needs no explaining: half of Pro.

Proving it

Go to /student-discount and press the button. One of three things happens.

Instant. If the address already confirmed on your account is a school address, there is nothing to send. One round trip and you are verified. This is the common case for somebody who signed up with their university address, and it is the case worth making instant.

One link. If you give a school address that is not the one on your account, a link goes to it and opening it is the last step. The page you left behind is watching, so it changes under you while you are still in your inbox.

A person reads it. Anything else becomes a request: it opens a support ticket with whatever you wrote, and we answer it. A real student whose college uses an unusual domain goes down this path, and it is open on purpose.

What counts as a school address

Our own list, held as two kinds of rule: a suffix such as .edu, .ac.uk or .edu.au, and specific institution domains, which also cover their subdomains.

No third party is asked whether you are a student and your address is not handed to anybody. The list is deliberately conservative, because sending a real student down the manual path is the cheaper mistake.

How long it lasts

Twelve months, then it renews from your account page. A student in September is often not a student the following September, so the term is a term rather than forever, and the page starts offering the renewal in the last month of it.

If you do not want to pay at all

The free plan is the whole simulator, with no time limit and no card: every board, every part, the compiler and the serial monitor. The discount buys unlimited projects, more history, export, badge-free embeds and live collaboration, not the thing itself.
