Streaks, quests and badges

How a streak is counted, the three daily quests, and the badges tied to real events.

The streak

Do one real thing and today counts: run a circuit, pass a lesson step, build, share or solve a challenge. The day is your own calendar day, in your time zone, so a streak ends at your midnight, not somebody else's.

A run that ended yesterday still reads as a run, because the day is not over. If today has not counted yet, the header says so gently: "Keep your 5-day streak: one run today." A gap of a whole day starts a new run at one. The best run you ever had never falls, even when the current one does.

Streak milestones pay XP once each: 3, 7, 14, 30, 60, 100 and 365 days.

Streak freezes

A freeze covers one missed day. You can hold two. They are earned, never bought:

  • one for a run of seven days or more, at most one a week
  • one every time you level up

A freeze is spent in one narrow case: exactly one missed day, a freeze in hand, and you back here doing something. The covered day counts, so a run through one freeze keeps going as if you had been here. A freeze never spends itself while nobody is here. You still have to turn up.

Daily quests

Three small quests every day: one easy, one medium, one hard, such as "Run 2 circuits", "Try a part you have not used before" or "Finish a whole lesson". They are picked by the date, so everybody has the same three, and they change at your midnight.

Quest XP
Easy 15
Medium 20
Hard 30
All three done 30 more

About one day in four, the medium quest is a double XP quest.

Badges

Fifteen tracks, each with a bronze, a silver and a gold badge. Bronze comes in the first days; gold takes real work.

Track Badge Bronze, silver, gold

Bronze is worth 20 XP, silver 50 and gold 100. A few more feats are hidden: they show as a question mark until you find them, and each is worth 75 XP.

Lesson badges and editor achievements

The lessons and the editor keep their own badges too, earned by something that happened rather than by a counter ticking over.

Badge How
First light Light an LED. Wire one up, press Run and watch it come on.
Compiled in the browser Press Run on a board with a sketch in the editor.
555 astable Get a 555 running: its output has to go high and low on its own.
Found the fault Fail a Check, work out why, and pass it.
Every board Run the Uno, the ESP32-C3, the Pico and the STM32 at least once each.
Lesson published Write a lesson in the editor and publish it.
In a class Join a class with the code your teacher gives you.
Seven days Pass a step on seven days in a row.

Each is worth 30 XP. The editor achievements (First wire, First Run, Ten parts, Four families, Night owl, Early bird, It spoke and Long run) are worth 20 each.

Where to see them

On /progress, with the next tier of every track and how far you are from it, and on /learn and your account page. The gray ones say what to do to earn them, which is the point of listing them at all.
