Sticky notes

A square of paper on the board: what a corner of the circuit is for, in your own words.

Putting one down

Open the part panel with the round + button or the A key. The Sticky note tile sits at the top of the panel under a Notes heading, out of the categories, because a note is not a part and belongs in none of their drawers. Searching for note, sticky, comment, text or annotation finds it.

Click the tile and a note lands in the middle of the view. Drag it and the note lands where you let go. Either way the field opens right away, because a note is put down to be written on.

Typing in it

Double-click a note to open the field again. With one note selected and nothing else, Enter opens it with the caret at the end and any letter opens it and types that letter, so a on a selected note is an a, not the part panel.

Escape ends the edit, and so does clicking away. Both keep what you typed: a note is not a dialogue box and there is nothing to cancel.

Text wraps on word boundaries at the width of the paper. A note holds 600 characters, and anything past what the paper shows ends in an ellipsis rather than running off the edge. An empty note says Double-click to type until you do.

Color and size

Select a note and the properties panel offers five colors (yellow, pink, blue, green and gray) drawn from the theme, so they read in the light theme and the dark one.

Three sizes are there as buttons: Small, Medium and Large. For anything else, drag the grip in the note's bottom right corner. A note is held between 60 and 900 units square whichever way you size it.

The panel also has Edit text, for anybody who did not find the double click, and Delete.

It is not a part

A note carries no pins, is never wired, and is stored beside the parts rather than among them. The simulation never sees one: a board covered in notes builds exactly the netlist a bare one does.

Everything else is ordinary

Notes move by dragging, go with Delete, and copy and paste like anything else. A selection of nothing but notes is still worth copying. Undo takes back a note you added, moved, recolored, resized or typed into.

The layers panel has a Notes row, so you can hide or lock the whole lot while you work on the circuit under them.

Where they turn up

Notes travel with the document, so they are in the save, in the export file, in a share link and on a project's page.

They are in the picture too: a PNG or SVG export grows its box to reach them and draws them with the circuit. The Double-click to type hint is not in it. That is an invitation to the person editing, not something anybody wants printed on a worksheet. See exporting PNG and SVG.

In a live room a note is an edit like any other, so the paper appears on everybody's board as you put it down. See rooms.
