How many people fit, and ending a room
The per-plan limit, what a refused joiner sees, and how a room stops.
The numbers
The owner's plan decides, not the joiner's.

So a teacher on the Teacher plan or Classroom opens a room and the whole class walks into it, on free accounts. Joining is never charged for.
This is the size of a live room, not of a class. Class seats are a separate limit: how many students may be on a teacher's rosters, ten on Pro and forty on Teacher (see join codes, rosters and seats). A room on a Pro teacher's project holds five people at a time even though their classes hold ten students.
The count is of people, not connections. A second tab of an account already in the room is the same person, not a sixth one. The owner is never turned away from their own project.
When one more person tries to join
They are not silently dropped. A WebSocket that fails to connect tells the browser nothing more than "it failed", so the room accepts the connection, says the room is full along with the limit and the plan, and then closes it. On Free that is the third person. On Pro and Student it is the sixth, and on Teacher the forty-second.
What they see is a card saying the room is full, which number the limit is and whose plan it belongs to, a line pointing out that a Teacher room holds the whole class and a Classroom room has no limit, and a button marked Work on your own copy. Pressing it leaves them in the editor with the circuit as it stood, which is a better outcome than an error.
Ending a room
End the room, in the live collaboration block of the share sheet. Both links are taken back and everybody in it is let go. Each person keeps the circuit as it stood in their own editor.
There is no separate "kick" button. To drop the people on one link without ending the session, mint a New link for that role: see watch links and edit links.
If collaboration is not there at all
Live collaboration depends on a server feature being switched on. Where it is not, every room route answers plainly and the editor simply does not draw any of it, rather than offering a button that fails.
A class
A class assignment can carry a room, so the whole class joins the teacher's starter circuit from their own class page without the teacher sending anybody a link. A room on a hand-out holds the whole class, forty-one people, when the teacher is on Teacher or inside the 30-day trial, and has no limit on a school's plan.
