ESP-01 simulator, an ESP8266 with eight pins
The ESP-01S is an ESP8266, its flash chip and an antenna on a module 24.8 by 14.3 mm, with eight pins. Four are GPIO and two of those are the serial port. Its blue LED on GPIO 2 lights when the pin is LOW, and WiFi joins a simulated network.

Is it free?
Yes. Every board and every part is on the free plan, with no account needed.
Why will it not go in the breadboard?
Its two rows are 0.1 inch apart, so both would land in the same strips and short each other. Wire it with jumpers, as on the bench.
Can I compile my own sketch?
Yes. It is an ESP8266, so your sketch compiles in the tab the way a NodeMCU’s does: edit it and press Run.
Does it simulate WiFi?
Yes, on a network written in software, with the name and password as settings on the module. There is no radio and no real internet.

Firmware for the modeled peripherals uses the board’s memory map. The contract also marks register addresses inside the SAR ADC and LEDC that are still unverified.

WiFi uses a simulated network, with no radio or real internet. The ADC is the one block whose registers are this model’s own, because Espressif never published the chip’s.
