For teachers

A STEM day a substitute can run

Leave one link and one instruction. The lesson explains each step, checks it against the running circuit and tells the student what is still wrong, so the substitute only needs to keep the room on task.

  • Grades 6 to 12
  • One class period
  • No setup for the substitute

Projects to open

Each one runs in your browser in one click, with no account. Ages and times are suggestions.

Hello, breadboard

The circuit behind the first-circuit lesson, for a class starting from zero.

  • Grades 6 to 9
  • About 45 minutes

First blink

The first program, with every line explained in the sketch.

  • Grades 7 to 12
  • About 45 minutes

What to leave on the desk

Three lines are enough:

  • Open this link on your Chromebook (the lesson link, or the class page if your class has one).
  • Work through every step. A step ticks when your circuit does the right thing.
  • When you finish, hand it in from the class page, or share the link with me.

Which lesson to leave

Pick by where the class is:

  • Never touched electronics: Build your first circuit.
  • Done circuits, not code: Blink, the first program.
  • Writing code already: Two rates at once, without delay.

If your class has a class page

Assign the lesson from your class page before you leave. Each student’s hand-in arrives with the steps they completed, ready for you when you are back.

What you need

Nothing but a browser. Mokxi is a web page. The circuit and the code run inside the browser tab, the C++ compiles there too, and nothing is downloaded or installed, so it works on a school Chromebook, a family laptop or a tablet.

Kids’ privacy, plainly

What happens to a child’s information, written from what the code does.

  • Every project here opens and runs with no account, so a child never has to give a name or an email to use it.
  • Saving work needs an account. A child under 13 can have one only with consent: a parent writes to us from their own email address and we confirm it, or a school gives consent for its classes.
  • For a student in a class, no analytics or advertising tag loads on any page, and classmates never see each other’s email addresses.

For your class

Run it as a class

A roster with a join code, starters handed to every student, checks that grade each hand-in, a live wall and the curriculum pack answer keys. Classes come with Pro and the Teacher plan.

Questions

Does the substitute need to know electronics?

No. The lesson explains every step and checks it, so the substitute only needs to help students open the link.

Do students need accounts?

Not to work through a lesson from a link. To hand it in through a class, they sign in to the class account they already have.

What if a student finishes early?

Point them at the next lesson in the same path, or at the project gallery, where every project opens in one click.
