# STEM on Chromebooks, with nothing to install

A Chromebook cannot install desktop programs like the Arduino IDE, and most school devices are managed so students cannot install anything at all. Mokxi needs neither: it is a web page.

- Any grade
- Ready in the time it takes to open a link
- Nothing to install

## Projects to open

Each one runs in your browser in one click, with no account. Ages and times are suggestions.

### First blink

Compile and run your first sketch, all on the Chromebook.

- Grades 6 to 12
- About 30 minutes

Open it About it

### A divider, measured

A multimeter on a divider, measured in the tab.

- Grades 7 to 12
- About 40 minutes

### WiFi: fetch the weather

An ESP32 fetches data over simulated WiFi, with no school network involved.

- Grades 9 to 12
- About 45 minutes

## How it runs

The simulator, the C++ compiler and the circuit all run inside the browser tab. Thirty students at once is thirty Chromebooks each doing their own work, with nothing queued on a server.

IT needs to allow the site and the few domains it loads from. The school IT page lists them, along with the answers a district review usually asks for.

## What students can do on a Chromebook

Everything the simulator does:

- Wire circuits on a real breadboard layout.
- Write and compile Arduino C++.
- Use a multimeter, a scope and a logic analyzer.
- Share their work back as a link that runs.

## What you need

Nothing but a browser. Mokxi is a web page. The circuit and the code run inside the browser tab, the C++ compiles there too, and nothing is downloaded or installed, so it works on a school Chromebook, a family laptop or a tablet.

## Kids’ privacy, plainly

What happens to a child’s information, written from what the code does.

- Every project here opens and runs with no account, so a child never has to give a name or an email to use it.
- Saving work needs an account. A child under 13 can have one only with consent: a parent writes to us from their own email address and we confirm it, or a school gives consent for its classes.
- For a student in a class, no analytics or advertising tag loads on any page, and classmates never see each other’s email addresses.

For your class

## Run it as a class

A roster with a join code, starters handed to every student, checks that grade each hand-in, a live wall and the curriculum pack answer keys. Classes come with Pro and the Teacher plan.

## Questions

Does it need any extension or app?

No. It is an ordinary web page. It can be installed as an app from the browser menu if you want an icon, but it never asks.

Does it work offline?

It needs a connection to load, and saving to an account needs one too. Once a project is open, the simulation itself runs on the Chromebook.

What does IT need to approve?

The site and the domains listed on the school IT page. There is nothing to install and no extension to push.
