# Chromebook and network readiness

Will Mokxi run on your school’s computers and network? What it needs, the domains to allow, and a one-click test for the machine in front of you.

Last updated October 3, 2026.

Mokxi is a web page. The simulator and the compiler run in the browser, on the student’s own machine, so a school Chromebook works as well as a lab PC. There is nothing to install: no app, no extension, no plug-in and no driver.

## Test this computer

## Chromebooks and managed Chrome

- Mokxi runs in Chrome on ChromeOS, including Chromebooks managed through the Google Admin console. No extension or Android app is needed.
- Any up-to-date Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari runs the simulator, on Windows, macOS, Linux and ChromeOS.
- If your Chrome policies use URLBlocklist or URLAllowlist, add the domains below to the allow list.
- Students signing in with a school Google account marked under 18 need Mokxi allowed as a third-party app once; the steps are on the IT setup page.

## Domains to allow

Everything Mokxi serves, the site, the API under /api/ and the compiler under /toolchain/, comes from mokxi.com. There is no separate API host or asset CDN. Allow these in your web filter (GoGuardian, Securly, Lightspeed, Cisco Umbrella or a firewall allow list):

Domain | When it is needed | What it is for

mokxi.com | Always | The site, the editor, the lessons, the class pages and the API. Allow secure WebSockets (wss://mokxi.com) too: live collaboration rooms use them.

challenges.cloudflare.com | Always | The bot check on the email sign-up and sign-in link forms.

accounts.google.com | If students sign in with Google | Sign in with Google.

lh3.googleusercontent.com | If students sign in with Google | The profile picture on a Google account, shown on the roster.

checkout.stripe.com | Paid plans only (the teacher) | Paying for the Classroom plan by card.

billing.stripe.com | Paid plans only (the teacher) | Invoices, receipts and changing the card.

These are safe to block; Mokxi works without them:

Domain | What it is for

login.microsoftonline.com | Sign in with Microsoft. Students do not need it.

appleid.apple.com | Sign in with Apple. Students do not need it.

github.com, avatars.githubusercontent.com | Sign in with GitHub. Students do not need it.

www.googletagmanager.com, *.google-analytics.com | Analytics on our marketing pages. Never loaded for a student in a class; safe to block.

connect.facebook.net, www.facebook.com | Ad measurement on our marketing pages. Never loaded for a student in a class; safe to block.

static.cloudflareinsights.com | Cloudflare’s page-speed measurement. Safe to block.

Email (sign-in links) comes from mail.mokxi.com. The full list with the email setting and a note to forward to IT is on the IT setup page.

## WebAssembly

The simulator engine and the compiler are WebAssembly, which every current browser supports. Nothing needs turning on. A browser running without WebAssembly cannot run Mokxi; the test above says so if that is the case.

## Web Serial, for uploading to a real board (optional)

Everything in the simulator works without hardware. Uploading a sketch to a real Arduino over USB uses Web Serial, which Chrome and Edge have on a computer or Chromebook and Firefox, Safari and phones do not. On managed Chrome, the DefaultSerialGuardSetting policy must not block it for mokxi.com; the browser asks the student to pick the port each time.

## Storage

- A signed-in student’s projects are saved in their Mokxi account, so they follow the student from one Chromebook to the next.
- The browser keeps the compiler (about 80 MB) in its cache after the first build, so the next build starts at once. Ephemeral or guest sessions that clear site data at sign-out download it again next time; builds still work.
- Mokxi keeps a few settings and unsaved drafts in local storage. If site data is blocked, those are not kept between visits.

## No installs

Nothing to install on any machine and nothing for IT to push. If a machine can open mokxi.com and the test above passes, it is ready. Questions go to support@mokxi.com, and a person answers.
